WebbDear FRONTLINE, Although a long-time faithful viewer and fierce admirer of Frontline, few programs have moved me as much as the one on the pernicious and destructive effects of plea bargains. I not omly was moved to tears, I wept like a child. It is totally unacceptable that these egregious injustices are such an integral part of our legal system. WebbAs explained throughout the documentary the plea bargain is “ an agreement between the prosecutor and the accused in which the accused pleads guilty in exchange for a lesser sentence or a reduced charge”.(Frontline) The plea is presented by lawyers to give those accused a “freedom of choice” and it “ reduces uncertainty as to the outcome of a trial”.
